Spring 1 2024
Responsibility
This half term our value is responsibility. Through collective worship we have been thinking about how we are each responsible as individuals and how responsibility is about taking care of each other and our surroundings. In year one we know that we are responsible for our classroom and our equipment in the classroom. At busy time we have our 'Use it, Choose it, Put is Away' policy that means when we are finished using some equipment we should return it to where it belongs so our classroom is kept tidy and our friends can enjoy playing and learning with the same equipment we like to use!
Portland Basin Museum
This half term we are being historians for our learning and answering the question “How has childhood changed over time?”! Toys are an important and fun part of childhood and to help us learn more about how they have changed over time we visited the Portland Basin Museum. While we were there, we were given the chance to play with lots of old toys from the Victorian era and discovered that toys from a long time ago were very different! With no electricity or plastic, toys had to be made from wood, metal and even porcelain (which is not a very sensible choice). We also went on a fact hunt for important information about toys throughout history; we found out that some games were invented thousands of years ago while others were only for grownups, and we wouldn’t have been able to play with them. It was a lot of fun to discover so much new information about toys from the past and try them out for ourselves.
