Summer 2 2025
Let all that you do be done in Love
1 Corinthians 16:14
This half term we will be exploring the question:
History
For our History learning, we've been thinking about how things change over time, with a focus on transport! Did you know that a long time ago there were no concrete roads like we have today? There were no big cars, trucks or lorries to make room for so our world looked very different. Before electricity and petrol, people used to use lots of different unusual types of transport. We would never come to school on a camel, a donkey, or a horse, but people in the past used to use animals for transport all the time (we linked this learning to our RE learning and looked at how Jesus travelled in the Bible, in lots of stories Jesus rode on a donkey). We also know that some transport did exist in the past but looks very different to how it looks today. In the present, it is common to find cars that run on electricity but in the past electricity wasn't an option, all cars had to use petrol to move around.
Maths
This half term in maths we've been learning about money and what value it has. We first looked at all different types of coins and how we can figure out their value, we learned that coins come in all different shapes and sizes but they always have their value printed on them somewhere. We had a go ordering coins in different ways, from their physical size to their value, and then also spent time adding coins together to work out their total value. We now know that the 1p coin has the lowest value and the £2 has the greatest value. Most coins are pennies but pounds are special and have two colours: a silver centre and a golden edge. We also know that money can come in the form of notes, these are always pounds and also have their value printed on them (they also come in lots of different colours)!
We have also begun to look at time in our maths learning. We have started by ordering how we spend our day and using the correct terminology to describe when things happen e.g. first I wake up, then I brush my teeth, next I get dressed. We expanded upon this learning by looking at the days of the week, not only learning about their order but also using the terminology of 'yesterday', 'today, and 'tomorrow' to talk about how the week progresses. Time is a difficult concept but we know lots of great ways to help us remember the days of the week, including a great song with some fun clapping actions. Please ask us about our days of the week song at home and we'll teach you how to sing along!
