This half term we will be exploring the question:
English
In English, this half term we have begun our learning by looking at a collection of poems by Benjamin Zephainah called Talking Turkeys. We have looked at a range of poems from this collection. We have learnt about the secret strings of poetry and different methods used to create poems. We have also looked at comic verse and limmerick poems. Following this learning we have created our own poems all about me.

After our poetry unit, we have started the Curiosiry: The story of a Mars rover. Within this book, we have researched a lot about space. We have created a factfile about the moon landing and written a persuasive letter to NASA about why they should hire us as an astronaut.
Maths
In Maths, we have progressed onto looking at shapes. We have focused our learning on recapping different types of angles and turns. We have then moved onto learning about the angles around a point and angles on a straight line and the ways to calculate them. After we had learned about angles, we continued our work on shapes by looking at regular and irregular polygons and the properties of 3D shapes.
After our shapes unit, we have looked at position and direction. We have recapped our learning from previous years on coordinates and graphs. We have used this knowledge to help us with translation and reflection with coordinates.
History
In History, we have started our work on the Victorians and the Industrial revolution. We have looked at the major events that happened during the Victorian period and placed them on a time line. We have undertaken a walk around our local area to see the affect that the Industrial revolution had on Hyde. We have also compared the two different classes in the Victorian period and how much their lives differed. We have looked at the different methods of transport during the Victorian period and researched different inventions from that time period. We have used all of this infromation we have researched and gained to create a booklet about the different Victorian buildings in Hyde.

Science
In Science, we have continued on our work from last half term on properties of materials. We have looked at different ways we can combine and seperate solutions. We have performed two experiements where we have looked at dissolving solutes into a liquid to make a new solution and filtering to seperate an insoluble solution.
