Summer 1 2026
Maths
This half term, we have been focusing our maths learning on geometry. We have learnt about the different types of angles, angles around a straight line and angles around a point. We have built on our prior knowledge of shapes to be able to identify different 2D shapes in the net of a 3D shape. We have also used our prior learning on turns to do some practial maths on the playground where we looked at using mathematical language to complete a maze.
We have now moved onto looking at measures. We have looked at what the prefixes of kilo, centi and milli means and how that affects units of measure. We have also looked at converting between different units of measure.
English
This half term, we have been looking at traditional tales and have done this through the use of the book 'The sister who ate her brothers and other gruesome traditional tales'. We have used the imagery and descriptions within the tales to create art work, setting descriptions and story maps. We have also completed a role on the wall for several of the characters within the different tales that we have heard and compared the plot of three trickster stories we have heard. We have used the basis of these trickster stories to create our own character and story.
Science
This half term, we have been looking at properties and changes of materials. We have been exploring the different materials in school and discussing why their properties make them good for their use. We have also performed an investigation on carrier bags and which material would be the best for a carrier bag.
Learning challenge
This half term, we have been looking at the industrial revolution and Hyde. We have looked at the time period of the Victorians and different Victorian artefacts. We have looked at the different classes from that period and why many people migrated from rural areas to urban areas. We have researched the different modes of transport from the Victorian era and the different inventions which have helped to shape the technology of today.
