Maths

This half term our focus in maths has been on decimals, fractions and percentages. We have been learning about the different values of the digits after a decimal point and how to partition the number a standard and non-standard way. We have looked at how to add and subtract numbers with decimals and looked at how to round decimal numbers into whole numbers and to one decimal place. We then used our prior learning on fractions to help us see the links between fractions and decimals and this knowledge has also helped us link this knowledge with percentages.

English

In English, our book has been Curiosity: The story of a Mars Rover. We have been using our distilling skills a lor in this unit of work as we have been researching many different people and objects using the chromebooks. We have looked at the Mars, The history of space travel, the moon landing and famous people involved with space. We have learnt all about Curiosity's journey from Earth to Mars and its 'Seven minutes of Terror' as it landed on the surface of Mars. We have used all that we have learnt to produce a factfile all about Curiosity and her journey. 

Science

Our learning in science this half term has linked to our English book as we have been learning all about Space. We have looked at what causes shadows and why shadows move throughout the day and why they got longer and shorter. We have compare Earth, the Moon and the Sun. We have looked at our solar system and found out what each of the eight different planets are made from. This knowledge has also helped us in other subjects as we have been creating a piece of art all about space in our art lessons with Mrs Wood. 

Learning challenge

In our learning challenge this half term, we have built on our learning from before Christmas where we looked at biomes and climate zones. This time we have focussed on the Rainforest biome and in particularly the Amazon rainforest. We have learnt about the different layers that make up a rainforest and the animals that live at each layer. We have also learnt about how important a rainforest is and all the different objects, medicines and food we can get from a rainforest.
