Welcome back Year Six - Happy New Year!

Maths

We jumped straight back into fractions after the half term break. We have been leanring to multiply and divide mixed numbers with whole numbers. This was a challenege at first, but with great strength and determination we have mastered it! Through collaboration and coaching the Year Six class are now fraction experts, well done Year Six!

We are now starting our learning on decimals. Firstly to to the place value of digits, then moving to multiplying and dividing decimals. This is a tricky challenege, but I'm sure by the end of the week we will be confident with decimals.

English

English is one of our favourites - we have been introduced to the book 'The Promise'. A few starnge items were left in our classroom one morning and it left us asking 'W ho do these belong to?' We later learnt that they belong to 'the girl'. Through a use of reading, writing, drama and group work we've built up a strong idea of who 'the girl' is and what she is doing in such a disgraceful city.

This week we are using modal verbs, adverbials and rhetorical questions in our writing to justify why the girl is pickpocketing strangers in her city. By varying our sentence structures and adding in personification with abstract nouns, Year Six have created beautiful pieces of writing about 'the girl'. We are excited to find out what happens next!

Science

What do you know about the Circulatory System?! This is a very interesting topic at the minute and Year Six are loving every minute! We started by looking at our existing knowledge of the heart, lungs, blood, and blood vessels, mclosely followed how these are all linked to the Circulatory System. It is absolutley fascinating how all these individual parts work together to keep us alive - Year Six are mesmorised by it as they say "Isn't it amazing how God made us all?"

We are moving onto looking at a REAL heart, and the parts that it has!

These are our creatures we made when looking at genes and genetics!
