Autumn 2 2025
This half term we'll be trying to answer the question: How has childhood changed over time? To start our learning we looked at our families and how families used to live in the past. We learnt that a long time ago families used to be a lot bigger, some of our grandparents may have had lots of siblings, where we usually have smaller families now (but there are some exceptions). We have also looked at the sort of clothes we wear in the present and the clothes children used to wear in the past, we learnt that people used to make a lot of their own clothes in the past where most of us buy our clothes from shops. We also wear lots of different clothes for lots of different occasions, we wouldn't want to wear our best party clothes for a run around the park, but children in the past had less clothes and had to really take care of them. During this time of year we're really grateful that we have our waterproof coats to wear outside, but they didn't have waterproof clothes a long time ago, it must have been very cold and wet during the autumn and winter months!
English
This half term we are learning about our story: Claude in the City. The book is about a small, plump dog called Claude who goes on an adventure with his friend Sir Bobblysock into a big city. We love how this story has lots of adjectives and have been writing our own sentences about what Claude looks like (he wears a lovely red jumper, just like lots of us)! We have also been designing our own sock friend, given them a name of our choice, and have been writing sentences to describe what they look like. One of our aims this half term is to use the word 'and' in our sentences, by using 'and' we can connected multiple phrases together and also begin to list adjectives when describing something.
Maths
This half term in maths we've been building upon our knowledge of number bonds and part-part-whole to start subtracting numbers. We have been building a story using the words 'first', 'then' and 'now' to explain what has happened to the numbers and have even begun to write these as number sentences e.g. first there were five apples, then two apples were eaten, now there are three apples left. 5 - 2 = 3.
