Autumn 1 2025
Our English Learning This Half Term
This half term, we have enjoyed reading two fantastic books: Dragons Don’t Share and Mini Rabbit Not Lost.
We’ve absolutely loved listening to these stories and using them as inspiration for our own writing. They have helped bring our English lessons to life!
Our focus has been on:
- Letter formation
- Using capital letters and full stops
- Remembering finger spaces
- Exploring colours and using adjectives in our writing
Everyone has worked really hard, and we’re so proud of the progress we’ve made!
Our Maths Learning This Half Term
In Maths, we have been exploring numbers up to 10. We've been learning how to find one more and one less, and how to add two numbers together using the part-whole model to make a total.
The children have been fantastic at using practical resources, working with partners, and explaining their thinking. It’s been great to see their confidence growing every day!
Science: Exploring the Seasons and Trees
This half term in Science, we’ve been learning all about what happens to trees as the seasons change from summer to autumn. We've been observing how the leaves change colour, fall to the ground, and how the trees begin to prepare for winter.
We’ve also been learning how to identify different types of trees by using their leaves as clues—just like real scientists!
As part of our learning, we’ve explored the parts of a tree and a flower, and discovered the differences between evergreen trees (which stay green all year round) and deciduous trees (which lose their leaves in autumn).
It’s been a fun and fascinating topic that has helped us look more closely at the world around us!
Religious Education: Caring for Our World
In RE this half term, we have been learning about the Christian creation story and the order in which God created the world.
We’ve enjoyed sharing our favourite parts of creation and reflecting on the beauty of the world around us.
As part of our discussions, we talked about the importance of looking after our world, including what happens to animals and the environment if we don’t take care of it. We all agreed that it is everyone’s responsibility to protect our planet!
We also explored practical ways we can help care for our local environment, starting with small changes that can make a big difference.
Geography: Exploring Our Local Area and the UK
In Geography this half term, we’ve been learning all about our local area of Hyde, as well as exploring the wider United Kingdom and its capital cities.
We’ve also been learning to tell the difference between human geography (things made by people, like buildings and roads) and physical geography (natural features like rivers, hills, and forests).
It’s been a great opportunity to discover more about the world around us, starting right on our doorstep!
PSHE: Taking Care of Ourselves
In PSHE this half term, we have been learning about the best ways to take care of ourselves—both physically and mentally.
We talked about how important it is to get plenty of sleep and have a good bedtime routine. We also learned that eating healthily, getting regular exercise, and spending time outside in the fresh air all help to keep our bodies and brains healthy.
We’ve had some great discussions and shared lots of ideas about how we can make healthy choices every day!
