Winter Wonderland

When the snow arrived at St Georges we enjoyed exploring and questioning outside. We wrapped up warm and had lots of fun exploring how the snow had changed our outside environment. We worked collaboratively to build snow men and investigated together.

We have begun our learning challenge by exploring a variety of traditional tales. We explored the themes and characters and compared how they were similar and different to one another. We enjoyed chosing our favourite traditional tales to share with a friend.

"Run Run as fast as you can. You can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man"

We have read the story of The Gingerbread Man together. We retold the story using a variety of props including puppets and masks. We all enjoyed using the repeated refrains from the story. We then made a story map to retell the story.

We innovated by changing the characters and setting of the story using our story map. We created a new story together all about the runaway cupcake who was eaten by a crocodile at the end.

The Runaway Chappati

We have explored the story of the Runaway Chappati. We used our noticing skills to spot the similarities between this story and The Gingerbread Man. We were able to talk about the different settings and characters in the two stories. We and also talked about which story we enjoted the most. We showed respect for each others different views and tried hard explain why we had chosen our favourite.

"Little Pig, Little Pig, let me in"

The three little pigs has allowed us to explore the value of friendship. We looked at how the pigs showed each other compassions and helped one another. We also talked about perseverance. The three pigs didnt give up! Instead they continued to explore each material until they found the best one to build thier house. In the classroom we investigated the three materials the pigs used and also persevered to find the best one to build a house which will stand up to the Big Bad Wolf!
