Year 6

Team Building

Year 6 enjoyed their team building day at Dowson Primary school on 18.9.17. We had to work together in groups with other year 6 children from Hyde. The activities included a campfire, rope spider's web, nightline and archery. We had to use our BLPs and growth mindset to overcome the difficulties we faced during the day.

Year 6 Autumn Letter

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Year 6! My name is Mrs Potts and I will be teaching your children this year, along with Mrs Boult who is the year 6 teaching assistant. I am getting to know the children quickly and they have all made a positive start to Year 6. Year 6 is a very busy and exciting year with lots for the children to enjoy. There will be a range of trips and visitors throughout the year which will support the children in their learning. Later in the year, the children will be going to Hollowford where they will take part in a range of outdoor activities and, for some, this will be their first time away from home. There is no doubt they will have a wonderful time! The SATs will take place in May 2018. The children will be also making their choices for secondary schools. This is quite an important and sometimes difficult decision to make and we will help in any way we can.

Your child will be given a reading book to take home as well as a reading book which is kept in school. Your child should be reading daily at home and recording it in their diaries. In school they will take part in daily reading sessions within their English lessons.

Homework will be sent home on a Friday and is to be completed by the following Wednesday. This will link to work we have done in class but children may need your support. Remember also, reading and times tables need to be practiced regularly.

We will be doing PE on Tuesday and Friday afternoons. Tuesday afternoon is a session with the sports coach. Please remember to keep your PE kit in school so that it is available for lessons. Also, could you please check that your child’s PE kit has their names in all items to reduce the chance of loss.

Thank you for your support, please feel free to come and see me if ever you have any queries or concerns or you simply want to discuss your child’s progress.

Year 6 and Reception Buddies

Year 6 went to Reception to work with their new buddies for the first time this week.  We enjoyed this experience and hope to be great role models for them.

Year 6 have been working very hard in our art lessons with Mrs Taylor.  We have been creating an alchemy bottle image board as well as sketches and rendering alchemy still life drawings.  We had to use our noticing skill!

This week in our art lesson with Mrs Taylor we have designed our own alchemy bottles. We are very excited about making them out of Modroc next week!
