How can we be Guardians of the Rainforest?

What is the palm oil effect and how is it damaging our planet?

What have you been doing as 'Agents for change?'

Elliot has written to our local MP:

Dear Sir/Madam,

My name is Elliot, I'm nine years old and I was inspired to send an email when my school topic was how can we be guardians of the rainforest. We learned about palm oil and how it's damaging our world. I live in Woodley Stockport and go to school in Hyde. I have already given up eating palm oil myself. It has meant giving up eating my favourite chocolate and sweets. It is really hard to avoid eating palm oil as it is in so many different products.

As an MP I'm sure you must care about the world and one of the things damaging it is palm oil, an oil that's in chocolate, shampoo, lipstick and crackers. It is made by chopping down palm trees, they destroy the rainforest to plant the palm trees and lots of animals habitats are destroyed. Some animals are killed! Did you know that 25 orangutans are killed a day! Borneo elephants and Sumatran tigers and being pushed closer to extinction! This is unacceptable and can't be allowed to continue. We should stop palm oil forever to save our world for good. I am writing to you in the hope that you will use your influence as an MP to stop palm oil production. I know at this time you are very busy, but we can't afford to forget about our planet. Please campaign in parliament about the stopping of palm oil production and do your bit as a consumer by not buying products with palm oil in them.

Thank you very much for you time.

Yours faithfully

Elliot Jackson

Parent Workshop

To kick off our learning challenge we were joined in class by our parents to establish what we already knew about the rainforest and to discover the devastating impact that the palm oil industry is having on the environment.

How easy can we find palm oil free products in our local supermarkets?
