Welcome to Autumn 1 in Year 4

Learning Challenge

Click on the image to find out more about our learning challenge for this half term.

Using an Atlas

As part of our learning challenge we have been using an atlas to locate mountains around the world. We have created our own maps and included a key using OS symbols. It was a challenge for some of us! We felt as if we were climbing our own mountain!

We have been using an OS map to locate and name the geographical features. We were able to find the contour lines and read the heights of the hills. We also looked at the OS map of Werneth Low in our local area. It was a challenge but we enjoyed it.

Important Notes

Mrs Taylor has been showing us how to look at the artist Josie Russell and imitate her designs using scrap fabrics in an embroidery hoop. We will be adding paint and learning how to stitch to develop our ideas further over the next few weeks. We had to collaborate with our learning partners and use our noticing skills to carefully add details. It’s been great fun so far.

Swimming is going to begin next week for all pupils. Please make sure that pupils have had a good breakfast before we go swimming as it is very tiring first thing in a morning. We will leave school every Tuesday morning at 8:30 am. Please come to school 5 minutes earlier so we can register and be on time for our lesson to begin at 9:00. Look out for a letter with more detail about swimming soon.

TRIP- Sky High Climbing Adventure

We are going on a trip to Sky High Adventure in Droylsden on Thursday 19th September. Please look out for the letter with more detail on.

Homework will be handed out each Friday and should be returned the following Wednesday. Please support and check your child’s homework as much as you can and please sign it each week.

Please make sure your child has their reading book in school every day and returns their library book on Mondays.

Please make sure your child has a full PE kit (named!) in school including pumps or trainers so that it is readily available for lessons.

Thank you for your support.

Sky High Adventure

We had an exciting day at Sky High Adventure in Droylsden on the high ropes assault course and climbing as high as we could on the different clip and climb stations. It was a great day and we had to persevere lots. Some of us managed to achieve our personal challenges and climb as high as we could even though we had a fear of heights which is called acrophobia. It was not easy though and we definitely felt as if we were climbing mountains. It was one of the best experiences we have had and many of us will be returning to continue our climb.

Maths Sorting

We have been ordering 4 digit numbers from smallest to larggest and identifying the value of the digits. We had to order our group, girls, boys and finally the class numbers. It was a challenge because there were so many numbers we had to look at and check!

Finished Artwork- Mountains

We worked extremely hard to complete our mountain artwork based on Josie Russell's innspirations. We persevered to stitch our embellishments on to it and add detail to our designs. We are really pleased with our final artwork.
