Welcome to Year 4 - Autumn1 2018

Frieze

Frieze- In English we are reading a book called Leon and the Place Between. To begin with, we looked at an image from the book of a fairground and discussed some of the key vocabulary linked to this subject. We also had the treat of sampling the tastes we said were linked to fairgrounds. We really enjoyed the candy floss and popcorn. After reading the introduction of the book we were able to imagine how the characters were feeling and created a frieze frame of this. We had to guess who was which character from the book. It was fun!

Harvest Giving- Charnley House

Harvest Giving- Charnley House Tuesday 23rd October

As part of our harvest and ‘Generosity Challenge’ we had to give something to the local community. We decided to go to Charnley House, which is a local care home, and sing them some songs. We sang many different songs to the old people who lived there. They really enjoyed listening to us sing and watch the actions to the songs. Some of the people were clapping away at the music, one lady was dancing! They appreciated the time that we gave to share our talents with them and were pleased   to see us.

Year 4(14)

Hyde - Local Area

Hyde local area- As part of our learning challenge of 'Where are the beautiful spaces in our community?' we went for a walk to the canal to appreciate what is in Hyde for us to see and do. We were given some information about ordinance survey maps and had to identify some of the key features of the local map of our area. We checked against the map whilst we were out walking and identified these on the map when we came back and highlighted the route we walked. It was quite challenging but we persevered.

RE

We went on a Psalm trail around the school gardens. We had to use our noticing muscles to locate them then we had to persevere to understand what the Psalms were teaching us about God. It was challenging to interpret what God is like from the words but we had some great ideas and images.

Year 4 Letter

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Year 4! My name is Mrs Twinn and I will be teaching your children this year, along with Mrs Begum.

I am getting to know the children quickly and they have all made a positive start to Year 4.

Homework

Homework will continue to be sent home on a Friday and is to be completed by the following Wednesday. All challenges are linked to the skills the children will be practising throughout the year and develop their ‘Building Learning Powers’ too. This will link to work we have done in class but children may need your support.

Swimming

We will be going to the swimming baths on Tuesday mornings; please make sure your child is in school for 8.25am every Tuesday morning as we aim to leave at 8.30am to ensure we get to the swimming baths on time for the lesson.

PE

Please ensure your children have their PE kits available in school and all items are fully named.

Thank you for your support.

Mrs Twinn
