Our trip to Manchester Museum

Our vlogs about Ancient Egypt

Many of us want to be a YouTube star when we are older so as part of Aspirations Week we have been learning about the role of a YouTuber and writing scripts for our very own video log. We were very excited to use the iPads to record our vlogs and then used Movie Maker to combine them into one film!

Ancient Egyptian Death Masks

Ancient Egyptian Canopic Jars

Visit from Starchaser and Steve 'The Rocket Man' during Aspirations Week

On Thursday we had a visit from the Star Chaser rocket and Steve ‘the rocket man!’ He came to tell us all about their work on space travel and answer questions about our future aspirations of space travel. We loved hearing about Steve's love for space and exploring the rocket that has been to space!

Project Based Learning: Our Parent Showcase!

Our parents loved coming into Year Three to experience our learning this half term!

Year 3 Spring Letter

Dear ParentsWelcome back after our Christmas break, it sounds like the children had a lovely holiday. They have come back into school and made a positive start towards their learning.

A reminder that children are collected from the playground at 8:40am so that we can start our spelling programme before Collective Worship. Please make sure you arrive before this time so our learning is not interrupted. If we have left the playground, please come into school via the office.

Please make sure your child brings their reading book every day, even if it’s not their reading day and remember to read with them at home as much as you can – it really does make a huge difference to their learning!

PE kits

Please remember to keep your children’s PE kit in school so that it is available for lessons.

Times Tables

Please help your child practice their times tables at home.  By the end of year 3, all children should know both the multiplication and division facts for the 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables.

Homework is given each Friday and should be returned the following Wednesday. It consists of set challenges each week PLUS a choice of one of the challenges from the choice board – you choose which one each week.

Thank you for your continued support,

Mr Nuttall

We had lots of fun using Skittles to find fractions! (and they were delicious)

Aspirations Week 2018

We have had such a busy Aspirations Week and we’re only half way through it! Here are a few things we have been doing;

Learning heroes is the theme of our week and we have been researching our own learning heroes then writing a non-fiction piece of writing about them.

Problem solving – we have been designers, architects, construction workers and developed the skills we would need to build a bridge for a Pharaoh to cross the River Nile.

We also explored the role of an architect and used our creative flair to make links to our Learning Challenge and design an Egyptian themed fun fair. We then used our maths skills to calculate the cost of our rides, shops, cafes, kiosks and toilets!

We have been experiencing the role of game developers and using our knowledge of Ancient Egypt to create our own board games.

We have been police and crime investigators, working with the police to solve clues and learn about DNA and fingerprints.

As part of Mrs Walker’s challenge last half term we have used our £3 to make cakes to sell to Key Stage 2. We have also been understanding how business works by calculating the profit (or loss) from the sale of our cakes.

On Friday we are visiting Morrisons in Hyde to understand the different job roles that exist in the supermarket and the responsibilities that come with those roles. We also have a visit from two science teachers who are going to explain the importance of science in our lives, what we can learn from science and how fun it can be carrying out lots of experiments!
