Welcome to your new class in Year Three!
We hope you had a great Summer break and you are ready for a year full of challenge and excitement! This half term we have chosen to learn about life in the Stone Age to Iron Age and how families worked together. We are very excited to get to know your children and learn alongside them.
Welcome and general information
Reading
Please make sure your child brings their reading book every day and remember to read at home as much as you can – at least 5/10 minutes daily. It really does make a huge difference to their learning! Library books should be brought in on Wednesday so the children can exchange them.
Times tables and year group spellings
Please help your child practise their times tables at home. By the end of year 3, all children should know both the multiplication and division facts for the 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables. We will send a list of spellings home at the beginning of the year and additional spellings weekly – please help your child to learn these.
Homework
Homework is given each Friday and should be returned the following Wednesday.
Thank you for your support and if you ever need to talk then we are available after school every day (except Wednesdays).
Mr Nuttall
The boy, the mole, the fox and the horse
For the first two and a half weeks we will be using the above book as a stimulus to our learning. We will learn how to understand our feelings and have a positive outlook to our lives, understanding how we can be our best.
Tale a look below at the wonderful learning linked to the story!
Harvest breakfast and crumble making and baking!

We foraged for berries during our Stone Age day, then harvested the apples and pears from our orchard, before making crumbles and celebrating harvest.
Performing with ‘The Iron Man’ as our stimulus.

Today, we have been performing excerpts from our new book ‘The Iron Man’ today. We have lots of budding actors bursting out in their performances using actions, sounds and lots of expression!
Using our research skills

We have had lots of fun discovering facts about Skara Brae, a Neolithic settlement in Orkney. We presented our findings in our own creative way, then shared our new knowledge with our friends.
‘Our family’ in the style of Keith Haring

Well done for bringing lots of food bank and spare change donations!

Circle time

We have been exploring our learning behaviours with Mrs McKeown as part of our PHSE circle time. We had lots of fun playing gams that help us to listen, notice, make links, respect others and concentrate.
Celebration

We have worked extremely hard this half term and our teachers are really proud of us. As a celebration of us joining the CDAT family of schools and our hard work we ended this half term with party food, crafts and a film version of this term’s book, The Iron Man.

Stone Age Day!

Planning, setting up and investigating in science!

Our scientists have been raising their own enquiry questions in science and have set up their investigations. We will be checking our results each day to find out what plants need to grow well.
Lancaster led our class collective worship today

We listened to ‘the widow’s coins’ story and reflected on how we can share our love.
