Year 3(1)

Dewa Roman Experience - Chester

As an exciting start to our year, we travelled back in time to the Roman times and explored Chester as it would have been back then. We went on Centurion duty and found out how the leaders of the Roman army led their soldiers. We thought that they were very loud and bossy!

Special visitor

This week we were visited by the Imam who answered our questions about being a faith leader and teacher at the mosque.

Anti-Bullying with BFF!

We had a great afternoon watching a performance by BFF who reminded us about anti-bullying and showing RESPECT to both ourselves and our friends.

Poetry day banner

As part of National Poetry Day this year we have been tasting fruit, thinking about our senses to describe our experience. We then used the vocabulary we discovered to write riddles. We also looked at our own favourite poems and then performed 'On the Ning Nang Nong' as part of a group - take a look at our performances!

Who inspires you? How do they lead others?

Information booklets

This week, Noah suggested that we could make information booklets to help Pattan from our story, look after his pumpkin and other plants. We have been using our writing targets, word lists and creativity to become absorbed in our learning.

You are welcome to come and take a look at our wonderful writing!

Important Notes

Dear Parents and carers,

We hope you had a great Summer break and you are ready for a year full of challenge and excitement! This half term we have chosen to learn about leadership, with a focus on the Roman leaders of the past. We are very excited to get to know your children and learn alongside them.

A reminder that children are collected from the playground at 8:40am when our school day begins. Please make sure you arrive before this time so our learning is not interrupted. If we have left the playground, please come into school via the office.

Please make sure your child brings their reading book every day and remember to read at home as much as you can – at least 5/10 minutes daily. It really does make a huge difference to their learning! Library books should be brought in on Wednesday so the children can exchange them.

Times tables and year group spellings

Please help your child practice their times tables at home.  By the end of year 3, all children should know both the multiplication and division facts for the 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables. We will send a list of spellings home at the beginning of the year and additional spellings weekly – please help your child to learn these.

Homework is given each Friday and should be returned the following Wednesday. It consists of set challenges each week PLUS a choice of one of the challenges from the choice board – you choose which one each week but it must be completed to the standard expected in Year Three. Homework should be done with a parent to help your child grow as a learner. Please see a teacher before the day homework is due if there are any problems or you need any help.

Thank you for your support and if you ever need to talk then we are available after school every day (except Wednesdays).

Outdoor Learning

Last Thursday we had an exciting day out! We walked up to Werneth Low with Year 2 and enjoyed a lovely picnic. Whilst we were there we thought about our future hopes and aspirations and sent them off into the sky, attached to balloons. Following this, we went to Alder High School where Mr Tabernor showed us how to carry out science investigations. We loved using the microscopes to look at living creatures and other tiny particles!

Learning Challenge

We are really enjoying learning about Roman leaders and learned how they led their armies to victory in many countries, expanding their empire almost 2000 years ago.

Here are a few of the interesting ways that children have chosen to present their learning so far:

Hall of fame

We have been working extremely hard to plan, draft, edit, improve and use the computers to present our hall of fame for our Project Based Learning presentation. We have been combining our learning to reflect on our own skills that will one day make us a great leader.
