Important Notes

Welcome to Year 2,

We are really excited for what this Year will bring and look forward to working alongside you to help your child make excellent progress.

Our team consists of Mrs Wassall – Class Teacher, Miss Blair, Mrs Finch, Miss Finch and Miss Outhwaite – Teaching Partners.

This half term our learning challenge question is ‘What makes me Unique?’ we will be exploring how we are all individuals and special. We will be inviting you into school to share our learning with you over the next few weeks so keep a look out for the date!

In year 2 we listen to your child read every day at some point either during English sessions, guided reading sessions or individually. Your child will have their reading books changed once a week – to help support your child please can you listen to them read for 5 minutes each night and write in their reading record so that we can see. Your child will also have a library book which will also be changed once a week. Our library day is Tuesday.

PE sessions are twice a week so please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school with their clothes clearly labelled with their name. The PE coaches and myself will teach PE and wherever possible we will go outside for the sessions so please ensure they have appropriate footwear.

Homework is also given out on Friday every week and is due in on the following Wednesday. It is very important that your child completes their learning at home. If for any reason they are unable to complete it, homework club is held on Mondays which they can attend.

Year 2 is a SATS year which I will give you more information about during the Spring Term but to help your child at home they can practise 2,5,10 times tables, spellings of Red words and reading a wide range of books to develop their vocabulary even more.

If you ever need to speak to myself I am available in the morning or after school and if necessary you can always telephone school.

Thank you for your support,

Mrs A Wassall and the Year 2 Team
