Welcome to Year 1 - Autumn 2017

Autumn Letter

Welcome to Year One!

The children have already had a fantastic start to the new school year – brilliant!  We have lots of exciting learning challenges planned and encourage children to lead their own learning, sharing their own interests and knowledge to make learning lively, interesting and fun!
In our class we have Mrs Strafford, Mrs Ahmed and Mrs Finch.  Mrs Osborne will also be helping us with our maths learning in the afternoons.

If you have any questions throughout the year, then feel free to ask when you collect your child or arrange a convenient time to meet with me.

Information about our school week

Reading: This year is an important year where your child’s phonic knowledge and awareness will be checked during the National Phonics Screening later in the year. Reading books are changed at least once per week with a record for you to comment when reading at home. Children will also select a book of their choice regularly from the library. We encourage every child to read as much as possible and ask adults at home to listen to them read regularly, encouraging them to apply their phonic knowledge and discuss what they have read.

10 minutes per night is better than one long session.

Homework: Homework will be given out every Friday and is to be returned by the following Wednesday at the latest. This must be signed by parents and a comment would be greatly appreciated.
There is one set homework and one choice per week to complete.

P.E. Kits: P.E. will take place twice a week. Please ensure the appropriate kits are in school.

I am practicing counting out objects to match the number that I have been given!

Year 1(3)

Settling In

“Year 1 have settled back into the swing of school life amazingly well!  They love the new addition of the home corner in the classroom and have all completed their first challenge of letting me know (however they choose) what they have done over the holidays.  What a great start!”
