Welcome to Reception

Starting School

We are so impressed with how well all the children have settled into school - they are all confident and enthusiastic and are exploring all the learning opportunities in the classroom...

Autumn Leaves

We have loved collecting leaves and looking at the different colours as they have been falling off the trees.  We have even learnt a song about leaves falling down.  We used some of the leaves that we have collected to make ourselves.  We worked hard to use scissors to cut the shapes that we wanted to make the features of our faces.  Can you see how we made our eyes, nose and mouth?

Marvellous Me!

We have been thinking about all the things that make us special.  We also explored how we are all different - we all like and dislike different things.  What things do you like?

Who will help me?

We have been answering the question Who will help me?  this half term.  We have been learning about our school family, our family at home and the community that we live in to think about all the people who will help us.  We made a model of someone who helps us and said why they were special and how they helped.  Watch the video to see how well we did.

Information

PE

All the children in Reception have been gifted a PE bag, school PE T-shirt and PE shorts.  Please send in PE pumps with your child's name inside that we can put inside their PE bag.  These will stay in school for the days when the children do PE.

Reading

The children all have a St George's reading folder and we have already started on our journey to becoming confident and enthusiastic readers.  When the children are ready, we will send a reading book home with a reading log for you to record when your child reads and how they enjoyed it.  Please return these to school everyday.  You can help your child to become confident readers by visiting the library and choosing some books, sharing books with your child and telling stories.

Who will help me?

Capture Autumn 1

Our Learning Challenge this half term is all about our commmunity and the people who care for us and help us within it.  We will be thinking about family, our friends, the school community and the place that we live to help us answer the question 'Who will help me?'

We have used the text 'Once there were Giants' by Martin Waddell to think about families and if thet are all the same or if every family is different.

My community

Google maps helped us to explore our community.  We searched for familiar places and found some new ones.  We even found our own homes.  We made models of our houses using boxes, and learnt how to cut flaps to make doors and windows that open and close.
