Welcome to St George's website. Please take a look at your child's class pages to see what they will be learning about this term.

Autumn 1 2022

Let all that you do be done in Love

1 Corinthians 16:14

This half term we will be exploring the question What makes Hyde special?

21 sept reception tb.JPG

It will help us to think about the people and the places in our families, school and community that we love, that we think are special and that help us to flourish and thrive as we grow.  It will also encourage us to look carefully at our environment and notice God's wonderful creations and question how we can look after our community and keep it special and unique.

We will also continue our learning journey through play and exploration of the things that fascinate and interest us; helping us to understand more, learn new skills and develop our spirituality through our thinking, our questions and our friendships.

Jesus is our Greatest Friend

We are so proud of how well all the children have settled into Reception.  They are showing friendship, compassion and love to one another every day, and also a great sense of fun and adventure!

This week we have begun our Forest School journey. We have shown respect for nature and taken responsibility as we explore the forest areas. We also had lots and lots of fun!

We have also been thinking about our favourite things. We talked about our favourite items in our classroom and practised our speaking skills by showing our favourite toys from home to our friends and telling them why they are so special.

This week we visited The Spiritual Garden. We listened to the Story of Creation and reflected upon the different things in our world and what it might be like if they weren't there.  We offered our own prayers of thanks to say thank you for some of God's wonderful creations.

This week we have been sharing the story of Rosie's Hat by Julia Donaldson. We have reflected upon and thought about the ways in which we change as we grow. How we have developed and the new skills we have learnt were shared with great joy and pride, and we're thankful for everything that we can do - especially riding bikes and running!

We looked at pictures of us as babies and discussed how we are different now. We used our scissors skills to create our own mini me's!

This week we have been readingt he story of Anna Hibiscus' Song by Antinuke and Lauren Tobin. We have been discussing Africa and Anna Hibiscus' family. Looking at similarities and differences to our communitiy.

In the story Anna's aunties pound yams. We were unsure what this meant so we had a look at yams and then tried pounding them ourselves - it was hard work!

We have also been exploring our community by making our own maps. We thought about the important and recognisable landmarks in our community and placed these on our map. We made lots of links between our own experiences and the different buildings in Hyde.

This week we have been learning all about Harvest. We have discussed what Harvest is and reflected on why it is a time to be thankful. We looked at food from around the world and thought about how the farmers harvest it. We then found out where wheat and flour comes from and how it is used to make bread. We even had a go at making our own bread. We were amazed to see how the dough changed as it cooked.

We have learnt the story of The Little Red Hen and made a story map to help us retell it. In the story the Little Red Hen asks all his friends to help him make bread. We used our story map to help us to change some of the characters and events. We made up and told a new story - it was all about the Big Fierce Lion and how he makes his curry and rice!

We joined the rest of school to celebrate Harvest in Church and enjoyed the Harvest Experience created by each class as we reflected on the meaning of Harvest.
